PAKOWHAI SCHOOL NEWS

LIVELY INTEREST SHOWN BY RESIDENT.

At a meeting of the Pakowhai School Committee held last evening, there was a full atteudance of members, Mr. S. Pedersen (chairman) presiding.

The headmaster, Mr. A. A. Brown, in his report, stated that the inspector who visited the school last week gave a very satisfactory report. The daily average attendance for the past month has been 68 out of a roll of 71.

The committee is greatly encouraged by the lively interest that is being shown among local residents by their support of the various social functions organised in aid of school funds. Recently, the members of the Pakowhai Women’s Institute provided a most enjoyable evening at the Church Hall, and in so doing not only contributed pleasure to all present but also a substantial donation to tho school. The Hastings Orphans' Harmonica Band concert party has kindly offered to give a first rate programme in .the Pakowhai Church Hall on a date to be arranged. This concert party, of outstanding merit, needs no introduction and it is hoped that a packed house will welcome the visitors. Tickets, 1/adults, 6d children, 2/6 family, may be had on application to the headmaster, Mr. A. A. Brown. Tho School Committee desires to thank Mrs. H. Fourneau and Messrs. H. M. Thompson and R. Howard for donations to the school.
