EARTHQUAKE RAISED LAND
DEVELOPMENT PROPOSED. USE OF UNEMPLOYED LABOUR. The development by means of unem ployed labour of the Inner Harbour area which was raised by the earthquake and the negotiations to bring this about were outlined to the Napier Harbour Board by the chairman, Mr A. E. Jull, M.P., yesterday afternoon. Mr Jull stated that he had interviewed the Minister of Unemployment, the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, regarding unemployed labour being put on reclamation work in the Inner Harbour lagoon. The Minister had advised him that the department had agreed that the scheme sent forward was quite practicable and he would be glad to give the matter his early attention now that the Unemployment Amendment Act had been finalised and the board knew what its income was likely to be. Mr Jull added that he had taken the step of associating with himself the members, for Napier and Hawke’s Bay in regard to this matter, as it was desirable that the board should have all the 'rongth possible in the handling of the matter.
