PRESENTATION OF SPORTS PRIZES. (Own. Correspondent). The results of the two late events at the Elsthorpo sports are as follow: — Turning Competition.—J. D. Ormond 1, Allen Smith 2, W. Ormond 3. Thread-the-Needle. —J. D. Ormond 1, Allen Smith 2, Drow McGaffin 3. The cup for the points prize was awarded to J. D. Ormond and R. Hall, with 18 points each. The dance held in the evening was a great success, the floor being if anything too crowded. The music was supplied by the Waipukurau Orchestra and was greatly appreciated. During the evening the president of the club, Mr. E. T. Wilder, thanked tho visitors for their attendance, also for patronising the sports and making the gathering the success it had been. Mr. Miki Thomas, from Waimarama, replied on behalf of the visitors, and thanked the Elsthorpe people for the good time they had enjoyed, and expressed the wish that Elsthorpe and Waimarama would be able to help each other in their sports gatherings. Mrs. Wilder then presented the cups to the winners as follow: —Mr. Orbell’s cup for most points in scientific wrestling: C. Verran. Most points in horse field events: J. D. Ormond and R. Hall. Received miniature replacing cup lost in earthquake for the open leaping won last year: J. Hart Married men’s race: D. Minty. “Daily Telegraph’s” trophy: Mr. Thorpe. Trophy for threading needle: T. Ormond. John Wilder Memorial Cup for winning open leaping: E. T. Wilder (with Walker’s Ridge). The sports were a great success, both socially and financially, and much of the credit is due to the Highland Band, which came from Dannevirke and was much appreciated. Tho fine weather added to the success of the sports.
