NAPIER’S UNEMPLOYED

ADVICE TO OUTSIDERS LOOKING FOR WORK. The Mayor of Napier, Mr J. Vigor Brown, has received numerous inquiries from people in other parts of the Dominion as to tho prospects of obtaining work in connection with the rebuilding of business premises in Napier. The Mayor has made inquiries from the Labour Department iu Napier and finds that there aro about 500 unemployed men of various branches of the building trade at present registered on the books of the department as desiring work. These comprise 100 carpenters, 20 bricklayers, 20 plumbers, 30 painters, 25 plasterers, 12 electricians, 25 engineering lads, and 200 builders' labourers. In addition to these the inspector in charge of the department estimates that there are at least onefourth as many more who are not registered who are at present either temporarily employed in the trade or performing other work of a temporary nature. Under the circumstances the Mayor deems it his duty to make this information public in order to avoid unemployed in other places going to Napier, and b' i’ig unable to obtain work. Already, . ithin the past few weeks several u .'iiiploycd who went to Napier in search of work hnve had to return to their homes after being unsuccessful in their endeavours.
