MUNICIPAL THEATRE OPENING
ON FEBRUARY 15. AN OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT. In answer to an enquiry this morning, His Worship the Mayor (Mr G. F. Roach) informed a “Tribune” reporter that the Hastings Municipal Theatre will be officially opened on Monday, February 15. The opening ceremony will be performed by His Worship, and to mark the occasion the Hastings Orphans’ Club will give a special entertainment. Messrs J. C. Williamson’s Gilbert and Sullivan Operatic Company will, it is expected, play on the three nights which the company pencilled in as bookings in anticipation of the completion of the theatre by the schedule time. Those dates are Friday, Saturday, and Monday, February 19, 20, and The contractors are now putting on the roof over the fly-gallery at the rear of the theatre and in the last two weeks a very large amount of work has been done. Decorators are busily redecorating the interior of tho theatre, the body of which is occupied by scaffolding on which the painters are working as high up as the ceiling of tho building. Much of the decorative work is being carried out in gold and bronze paint, and already looks extremely effective..
