FORGED BANK NOTES
MAN ADMITS POSSESSION. Auckland, Jan. 25. Due to the smartness of a shop assistant, the police ou January 9 secured the largest haul of counterfeit bank notes ever made in New Zealand. To-day, Harry Dawson, aged 48, n hatter, pleaded guilty to possessing 476 forged Bank of New South Wales £1 notes and to six other charges. In a statement accused said he camo from Australia four years ago, and that he found the notes in a cigarette tin in the gutter of a city street. He kept them for about two months before attempting to circulate them. He had cashed about ten of the notes. Ho did not know the men who were convicted last year of similar offences. He was committed for sentence.
