The annual combined picnic of tho St. Patrick’s Tennis Club, Napier, and St. Joseph’s Tennis Chib, Hastings, was held last, week-end in a delightful spot on tho banks of the Tukituki river near Elstborpe. There was a very largo attendance, the picnickers numbering somewhere about a hundred. The Napier members journeyed in Messrs Williams and Creagh’s lorries, while the Hastings contingent travelled in Railway Department buses. The weather was perfect picnic weather, being beautifully fine, and swimming was a favourite pastime. Rounders and other games and sports were indulged in. A relay race resulted in a win for the Napier team, while Hastings gained a victory in the men’s tug-of-war. The Napier ladies however were successful in a tug-of-war for the fair sex. The secretaries of the two clubs deserve a special word of praise for the very excellent arrangements made, the outing proving a most. i-njoynbli one to all who at. ■ tended.
