FIRST CONSIGNMENT OF SEASON. 600 CASES OF GRAVENSTEINS. A first consignment of six hundred cases of Gravenstein apples for export leaves Hastings to-day for Wellington, where they will be loaded on to the Port Caroline for England The district’s balance of 1400 cases to make up the total consignment of 2000 cases will be railed from Hastings for Auckland within the next few days and also will join the Port Caroline. That consignment is the first consignment of export fruit to leave the district this season, and it will not be until about the middle of next month that tho export season will begin in earnest. Cox’s will then make up the bulk of the cosnignments. Mr A. R. Grainger, of the Department of Agriculture, informed a “Tribune” reporter to-dav that there is a large quantity of good and clean fruit in the district this season anil that a favourable export season is expected.
