BOWLING

DOMINION PAIRS TITLE AUCKLANDERS SUCCESSFUL Christchurch, Jan. 24. The New Zealand Bowling Association’s annual tourney concluded to-day, when the pairs championship was decided. A nor’-west gale blowing made good bowling impossible, the bowls refusing to maintain their bias. On many occasions a likely looking king bowl was brought to a stop some distance from the head . Post-sectional play resulted:— Hardley 19, Shaw 15; Deare 22, Wilson 1. Semi-finals.—Hawarth 22, Deare 8; Hardley 20, Martin 19. Final.—W. Bremner and C. Hardley (West End, Auckland) 25; W. G. Ives mid R. Hawarth (Canterbury) 9. Conditions in the final game between Hardley and Hawarth were such as to spoil any attempt to give a good exposition of the game. However, both skips and leads made the most cf their opportunities. The Aucklanders pluycd steadily and scored constantly, while the Canterbury men missed many shots that could have been to their advantage. The actual scores, 25 to 9 in Auckland’s favour, did not reflect the powers of the players of either team, but that the win was a well merited <>a* was beyond question.
