A Hamilton man relates how he went to consult a doctor about a sore tongue. “Heavy smoker?” asked the doctor. “I get through three ounces a week,” replied the patient, “and would like to smoke more, because I’m fond of my pipe, but it makes my tongue worse.” The doctor nodded. “Smoke American stuff, don’t you?” he enquired. “Yes,” said the patient. “Knock it off,” directed the doctor, “and substitute New Zealand tobacco. Your tongue will soon bo all right then.” The patient did so. Quickly his tongue was “right as rain,” to use his own expression. Now he smokes more than ever I There are four brands of New Zealand tobacco: Riverhead Gold, Navy Cut No. 3, Cavendish and Cut Plug No. JO. They don’t burn tho tongue because there is hardly any nicotine in them. They are toasted. That extracts the poison. It also gives, them theii fine flavour- and delightful fragrance. They are quite harmless, and may be indulged in to any extent without fear of consequences. Of course there are imitations! Beware!*
