BRUENING’S FIGHT

BACKED BY/ HINDENBURG DEMAND FOR CONVOCATION OF REICHSTAG. NEGOTIATIONS WITH SOCIALISTS. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright Berlin, Dec. 9. The next development will be Dr. Bruemng’s fight to prevent the convocation of the Reichstag, which practically all parties are demanding. Tha Socialists, although opposed to wage reductions, apparently are prepared io continue to tolerate the Government. If the Economic and Peasants’ parties join the demand, the Reichstag must be summoned immediately, when there is a possibility of a no-confidence vote •» Dr. Bruening resulting in a dissolution and elections or a Hitler-Bruening dictatorship. However, it is believed tho Reichstag house committee meeting next week will reject the demand by a small majority. Dr. Bruening is at present negotiating with the Socialists and others and is hopeful of reconciling them to the Government’s standpoint. Dr. Bruening’s vigorous declaration against Hitler struck the popular imagination as proof that President von Hindenburg is fully backing Dr. Bruening. It is generally expected that Hitler will now lie low for some months. The Stahlhelms’ consternation at tho banning of uniforms has resulted in an appeal to President von Hindenburg not to sign the decree, as the prohibition will hit hardest military and loyalist Germans and destroy the nation’s fighting spirit and tradition of the old Field Greys.

The Rciehsbank has lowered the rate from eight to seven per cent.
