TRADE WITH CANADA

HON. DOWNIE STEWART’S MISSION. DR. E. CRAIG TO TRAVEL. Wellington, Dec. 9. The Minister of Finance and Customs (the Hon. W. Downie Stewart) will leave for Auckland by train on Sunday evening en route to Honolulu, where he is to meet the Canadian Minister of Trade and Industries, with a view to negotiating for a trade agreement o> mutual benefit to both Dominions. He will be accompanied by Dr. E. Craig, Comptroller of Customs, and Mr. T. B. Aickin, his private secretary. Arriving at Auckland on Monday morning the Minister will join the Royal Mail liner’Niagara, which leaves the following day. He will reach Honolulu on Christmas Day and negotiations will be opened as soon after that as possible. They are not expected to extend over any great length of time, and the Minister hopes to catch tho Niagara on the return trip.
