SOCCER CONTROL

AUSTRALIAN TOUR FIXED. LOANS TO ASSOCIATION’S. Wellington, Dec. 9. At the meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association last night, the chairman, Mr. F. Campbell, extended a hearty welcome to Mr. A. J. Hyder, who has just returned from a 12-months’ visit to Great Britain, the chairman remarking that Mr. Hyder would no doubt have some interesting information to give them from England and Australia. Mr. Hyder said lie had seen officials in Sydney, aud gathered that most of the best players were now under the Commonwealth Association. It was suggested that the Australian team should comprise 14 players and one manager, with a view to reducing expenses. In tho case of tours, if the visiting team made a loss and the home association a profit, the profit should be devoted to meeting the deficit if the other side. As against the allowance of 7/6 a day for married men and 3/6 for single men, it was suggested that a flat rate of £2 5/- a week should be paid to players. A question was raised as to whether a team of 14 would be sufficient to meet emergencies, and it was thought the number should be 15. Mr. Hyder added that there was no doubt about the tour being on. Mr. Carlile, the New Zealand representative to the Commonwealth Association, was doing good work over there for New Zealand. Thanks were accorded to Mr. Hyder for his report. Mr. H. I. Graves said the arrangement was that New Zealand should pay all and take all, and they should keep to it. Tho same would apply when the New Zealand team went to Australia. It was agreed to pay a flat rate allowance of £2 5/- a week. A copy of the proposed itinerary providing for five Wednesday and six Saturday games is to be forwarded to the Commonwealth Association for approval. The question of boat and train fares and general expenses is to be gone into by the finance committee to report to the council early in the New Year. LOANS QUESTION. A letter was received from General W. Madocks, New Zealand representative to the English Football Association, confirming a cabled intimation that the English Football Association had decided not to grant loans to two New Zealand Associations who had made application. A circular letter from the English Football Association stated that that body had made a grant of £lOOO to the Canadian Association toward meeting the deficiency on the tour of an English team in Canada. The ehairman said the trophy presented to New Zealand by the English Football Association had cost the New Zealand Council £960 since it was received in 1926. General Madocks stated in his letter that it seemed impracticable to send a team to tour New Zealand owing to the difficulty of collecting a team, the members of which could be absent for the requisite amount of time, and in any case to the great expense involved. In view of the improbability of being able to send a team to New Zea land for some time to come, the (English Football Association might be more favourably disposed to make a loan or give a grant to the N.Z.F.A. An application was made by the Auckland Football Association for a loan on the security of Blandford Park, and it was agreed to make a grant of £l2OO for five years at. 0} per cent., provided satisfactory guarantees were forthcoming, all legal expenses to be borne by the Auckland Association. It was also agreed to grant a loan of £l5OO to the Canterbury Association on first mortgage at 5J per cent, for five years, --ovided that the New Zealand Council’s solicitors are satisfied with the security. A loan of £3OO to the Mosgiel Association on tho same terms was also approved.
