BUTTER MARKETING A COMPANY TO BE FORMED. MAKING PRODUCT BETTER KNOWN. Sydney, Dec. 8. Representatives of co-operative and proprietary butter interests from all parts of Australia to-day decided to form a company for the marketing of Australian butter abroad, also for making it better known and eusuring better prices for producers. The company will have a capital of £50,000 divided into 10,000 shares of £5 each, with power to increase or reduce the capital. The company will be named Australian Dairy Products, !*:<!. Speakers complained that upwards of 50 per cent, of the Australian butter now marketed in the United Kingdom fell into the hands of blenders and lost its identity. The object of the company was to make sure that a larger quantity of Australian butter reached the consumer direct as Australian and thus create an increased demand and more substantial goodwill. Blenders might not like the innovation, but they would not run the risk of running counter to Australian interests. The company, it was argued, could also deal more largely in pat butter, using a uniform brand for all States. A committee has been formed to give effect to the conference’s decision. He also expressed tho hope that Australians en route to the homeland would travel by the Canadian route and combine business with pleasure. Mr Stevens added there was no cantact like personal contact. MILITANT SEAMEN. OUT VOTED BY MODERATES. Sydney, Dec. 8. The militant section of the Seamen’s Union to-day made an unsuccessful attempt to declare all vessels belonging to the Union Steamship Company “black” owing to the company’s refusal to dismiss the Koranui’s crew.
