BAG-SNATCHING CASE

SUSPECT IN COURT. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. Wellington, Dec. 9. A plea of not guilty was entered by John Augustus Jeans, aged 28, a butcher, when charged before Mr. Hewitt, ’S.M., with stealing a bag containing a cheque for £54 4/8 and £2O in cash from Gwendoline Mavis E v ans. in Victoria Street, on November 21. The money and cheque were the pro perty of McLean and Archibald. A number of witnesses were called to establish the identity of the accused as the man who snatched the bag. Accused was committed for trial, bail being allowed of £5O, conditional upon his reporting twice weekly to the police.
