TRAPPED BY FLAMES

FATHER SEEKS CHILD. BLAZING HOUSE RE-ENTERED. New Plymouth, Dec. 8. A farmer, Mr. J. Pollock, and one of his children had a narrow escape from death when his home on Patiki road, Pihama, was destroyed by fire. Mr. Pollock and his wife were awakened by the roar of flames late at night. The whole house was found to be ablaze, and both escaped hurriedly from their room in their night attire, Mrs. Pollock taking the younger child. Mr. Pollock entered the other room to save the elder child, but was overcome by smoke and was trapped by the spreadinn flames. By this time a brother, Mr. Duncan Pollock, had arrived, and, entering the room, succeeded in bringing his brother and child to safety. All the contents of the house were lost, includir- Mr. Pollock’s furniture, which was not insured. The house was one of the oldest in the district and was owned by Mr. J. D. Conaglen, of Patiki road.
