BOXING

LECKIE V HUGHES OPEN-AIR VENTURE IN NAPIER. Johnnie Leckie and Archie Hughes have been engaged, together with a very fine amateur programme, by the Napier Boxing Association for an open-air contest at McLean Park tomorrow (Thursday) evening. Patrons can be assured that they will witness one of the finest boxing entertainments they have yet seen. Big stands are being erected round the ring, and the comfort of those attending is well provided for. Music will will be supplied by C. B. Hansen and Co., who will commence early in the evening. Loud speakers will convey all around any announcements. Taxi services and Hawke's Bay Motor Co. buses are running from the Port to the park and back. Hastings buses will drop their people 100 yards away. Refreshments will be available on the grounds. The idea is a moonlight picnic. With such an ambitious programme, it is easily understood that the arrangements have given the association’s officials any amount of hard work, and, as a result, they expect a large measure of support. To see champions from two countries pitted against one another will cost only 4s 6d and 3s Gd, ladies 2s 6d, boys Is.
