MUSIC ON THE AIR. PROGRAMMES FOR TO-NIGHT At 7.40 p.m. Mr. E. H. Nepia will give a talk on “Maori Poetry.” The evening programme will be devoted to a performance of Handel’s “Messiah” to be given by the IYA Broadcasting choir, and the Salon Orchestra, under the conductorship of Mr. Len Barnes. The usual weekly international programme at 2YA will be featured. At 9 p.m. Dr. Guy H. Scholefield, 0.8. E., will speak on matters of international interest. Featured at 3YA: December with all its associations of “The Messiah” and general Christmas music, may be well termed “Handel’s Month,” and it is fitting that Hubert Carter should provide a Handel programme on this night. Assisted by Millieent O’Grady (soprano)) Findlay Robb (bass) and Stanley Morgan (pianist), he will give excerpts from “The Messiah’ ’"Jeptha,' “Acis and Galatea,” “Judas jfaccabaeus” and “Imeneo.” The Studio Octet will also perform many of Handel’s compositions. From 9.30 to 11 p.m. a programme of dance music will be presented. “Farmer Brown Discusses Farming with the Instructor” is the title of a dialogue between Mr. R. B. Tennent and Mr. L. W. McCaskill to be given at 7.15 p.m..from 4YA. “A Night With Schubert” is the subject of a lecture-recital by Mr. G. W. Johnstone, who will be assisted by ten artists. The evening should be pleasurable because seventeen of the best known songs of the “Master of Melody” will be featured. A Schubert piano selection “Impromptu in B Flat,” will be played by Rona Thomson. This recital will be augmented by splendid electrical recordings, including “Marche Militaire,” “Rosamunde Entr’acte No. J’’ aud “Gems from Schubert."
