LORD MAYOR’S BANQUET

MR RAMSAY MACDONALD CHEERED. “A UNIQUE GOVERNMENT.” (United Press Association—By CableCopyright.) (Received 10, 2.30 p.m.) London, Nov. 9. At the Lord Mayor’s banquet, the Rt. Hon. Ramsay MacDonald was tumultuously cheered. He thanked the Lord Mayor for his generous references to the Ministry, adding, “The Government is a unique Government. It was elected in unique circumstances to deal with what, happily for Britain, is a unique situation.” They had two great problems to face —balance the Budget and balance trade, the burden of which primarily fell on the shoulders of Mr Neville Chamberlain.

Mr Walter Runcunan said: “We shall face these issues in the spirit embodied in the manifesto upon which the election was fought and victory won.”' He pointed out that the currency problem, which the Government was created to face, was not only internal. European economies must be straightened out and rationalised before any European nation can find foundations for unstable economic and industrial conditions.
