OBITUARY
MRS JANE STOWE The death has occurred at Welling ton, after only four days' illness with bronchitis, of Mrs Jane Stowe, widow of the late Mr Leonard Stowe, C.M.G., in her 94th year, states the “Post." Mrs Stowe was married to Mr Stowe in 1871, and lived in a charmingly artistic homo at the end of Tinakori road, overlooking the harbour and Thorndon station, ever since. She was the daughter of the late Dr find Mrs Greenwood, of Motueka and Nelsoij, very earlypioneer residents and wonderfully cultured people, who brought up a large family, all of whom made their mark in many line directions in New Zealand. The sons all died some years ago, but there are still two daughters loft, Mrs Kemp (London) and Mrs Saxby (East Coast). Mrs Stowe leaves two sons. Dr Stowe (of Palmerston North) and' Mr 11. Stowe (of Wellington). The elder daughter, Miss Sylvia Stowe, died some time ago, and the other daughter is Mrs Brian Lysaght, of Hawke’s Bay. Mrs Stowe was an artist of considerable talent, and continued her work practically up to the time of her death. As lately as last winter she did some charming sketches of her much-loved harbour for some of the sales of work, as well as for gifts to friends. She was one of the most dclightfully-mannered people, the courtesy “of the old school" being well exemplified by her, while her hospitality was unceasing to relatives and friends whom she loved to have around her. The Misses Annie and Ellen Greenwood, of honoured memory in Wellington and other parts, were her sisters. Much sympathy will be felt with Mrs Stowe’s many relatives and friends in their loss.
