CRICKET
JUNIOR GRADE GAME. RUGBY DEFEAT WHAKATU. The junior grade cricket game played on Saturday between Rugby and Whakatu resulted in a good win. for the former. Batting first, Rugby made 164, declaring with five wickets down. W. Pearson knocked up an unbeaten 76 and Anderson contributed 54fl Other double figure scorers were R. Pearson 12 and Campbell 10. Bainbridge took two wickets for 22 runs. Ross two for 43 and Love one for 34. Whakatu were dismissed for 70, Ross 15, B. Anderson 14, Lourie 13 and Love 10 being the principal scorers. Milne four wickets for 12 runs, Kingston three for three, R. Pearson two for 12 and Campbell one for 23 were the successful trundlers. SPRINGBOKS MAY COME TO N.Z. NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING. The manager of the South African cricketers has received the New Zealand cable urging a visit to the Dominion at the conclusion of the Australian tour and has communicated with the South African Board. Mr. Robertson, chairman of the Australian Board, says that he has no objection provided the Australian itinerary is not interfered with. If the arrangements are completed, it will mean that the Springboks will go to New Zealand at the conclusion of the fifth test and then return to complete the Australian programme.
