Authority to borrow up to £3,000.000 r pertain Public Wnrks purposes is ven to the Minister of Finance in tho nanee Bill (No. 4), which was introred in the House on Saturday afteron. The money borrowed will bo paid into j Public Account to the credit of tho neral Purposes Account of the Public orks Fund. It is of interest that ' amount the Minister was authorised raise under the financial "washiug- >” Bill last year for Public Works rposes was £8,000,000, excluding ' 1)00,000 for forestry work. Under the terms of this year’s Bill rliament will appropriate sums from ; e to time from the amount raised, <1 they will be applied io the follow g purposes:— i a) The construction of railways and . litions to open lines. i b) Additional rolling stock for open >es and other works connected with s provision. e) Telegraphic extension. id) The construction and improvent of roads, including main highvs, tracks and bridges, for the purm> of providing and improving means access to any lands, developing goldds and works connected with these i-jccta. e) Tho construction of irrigation ika. f) Other public works, including ad. .istrative charges in respect of any ,rk» of the classes specified.
