A HAPPY EVENING. St. Mtathew’s Parish Hall, Hastings, was the scene of a very pleasant gathering on Thursday evening last, when the members oi the choir and their friends put care aside and indulged in a merry time. The evening’s entertainment took the form of competitions, musical itefns, and dancing. Each one of the fifty present wore some representation oi a popular song, and some clever and original ideas were thought out. Guessing what each one represented caused much thought and amusement. Other competitions also were very entertaining.

A community sing, under the baton of “Brother Stamp,” was a hilarious item, the caustic comments on the singing being hugely enjoyed by the choirmaster proper. Songs were sung by Mrs Spinney, Misses Betty Burton and Dorothy Symons, Mr W. A. Bryant, and a duet by Mrs Brinsley and Mr Thomas, the accompaniments being in the capable hands of Mrs and Mr C. B. Spinney. During a lull in the proceedings the assemblage was fortified by a delectable supper presided over by Mesdames Bark and Burton, after which, much refreshed, one and all joined in more dancing and games, until the midnight hour was seen to be approaching, so with “Auld Lang Syne” and “The King,” a very enjoyable evening was brought to a close. The music for dancing was provided by Mrs Bark, Misses Elsie and Florrie Bark, Miss Mary Collins, and Mr Jim Sellars. Great credit for the success of the evening is due to the energtic men’s committee, Messrs Bryant, Stamp and Thomas, whose capable organising kept everything going with a swing from start to finish.
