The Omarunui Croquet Club held their weekly 500 tournament in the Bowling Club’s pavilion, there being a good attendance. The ladies’ first prize went to Mrs Strachan and the men’s first to Mr R. D. Kelly, The lucky number for ladies was held by Miss G. Williams, and the meky number for men by Mr R. Cooper. Consolation prizes were won by Miss E. Alexander and Mr S. Scullin.

A meeting of ladies was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday aftemodn to make the supper arrangements 'for the forthcoming school ball, to be held in the Greenmeadows Hall on September 14 and 15 next. A strong committee has been formed to carry out the various details.

"The Presbyterian Ladies’ Guild held a musical afternoon yesterday in the Presbyterian Hall, there being a large attendance. A very pleasant time was spent in singing and competitions. The following was the programme: Piano solo, Mrs Moir; vocal solos, Mesdames Rock and Paton and Misses Sutherland and Hindman, and the Rev. Mi Martin; vocal duet, Misses E. and 0. Martin; elocutionary item, Mrs Dockery- violin solo, Miss D. Alexander. A very dainty afternoon tea was provided by the guild ladies. The Taradale Women’s Institute held an open evening for ladies at the bowling pavilion, Taradale, on Tuesday. A bright programme of competitions, games and community singing was arranged and a jolly time spent by the large number present. A most amusing charade concerning the adventures of Mrs Bridget McSweeney. the twins and a photographer whose exploits at the studio, golf links and picture show made the fun fast and furious, was acted by Mesdames Kelly, Badley, Hindman and Miss Gwen Hindman. A grown-up children’s half-hour, arranged by Mrs R. D. Kelly, caused much merriment as the “birthday greetings” to institute members were put over the air and the musical “hits” by the tiny tots from the Old People’s Home assembled in the T.W.I. Broadcasting studio, operating on a wave length of 50 “whatnots,” caused roars of laughter. Competitions were won by Mesdames Simpkin, Coker and Misses Symes, Hindman and Tafe. Recitations were given by Mrs Turton Supper and the singing of the National Anthem, brought to a very happy evening to a close.
