UNEMPLOYMENT IN U.S.A.
PRESIDENT'S SPECIAL EFFORT POLICY OF LOCAL INITIATIVE. Washington, Aug. 19. Mr Hoover has appointed Mr. Walter Lifford, President of tne American Telephone and Telegraph Company, one of America's largest corporations, to create an organisation for meeting the unemployment crisis in the coming winter. The President Hoover has appointed Mr. threat of Socialistic legislation. The President plans to meet the situation through a policy of local initiative with the Federal Government acting as the central co-ordination. The President indicated that he will fight every proposal for the enactment of direct relief by the Federal Government.
