HASHNGS P.O. BANK DEPOSITS EXCEED WITHDRAWALS. FIGURES FOR XMAS WEEK. For the first time for a number of years the amount of! withdrawals did not exceed that of the deposits at the Hastings Post Office for the week prior to Christmas—an indication that people are spending cautiously and putting aside “for a rainy day.”

More transactions were carried out at the Post Office Savings Bank this year than last, but, whereas twelve months ago the withdrawals exceeded deposits by about £5OO, this year the position is reversed, and the difference is over £2,000 for the week prior to Xmas Evo. The figures are as follow:—

The Xmas Eve returns are in keeping with those of the week previous, and are as follow, those in parenthesis being for 1929:—Number of deposits 139 (129); amount of deposits £2,398 (£2,606); number of withdrawals 175 (169); amount of withdrawals £1,366 (£1,883).
