OBITUARY

MR ERNEST TOMLINSON. There will be widespread yegret among a very large circle of friends not only in Hawke’s Bay, but many other parts of the North Island also, at the announcement of the death of Mr Ernest B. Tomlinson, which took place yesterday afternoon at the Napier Hospital.' Born at Sanson some 53 years ago, the greater part of his adult life was spent in connection with hotel businesses in various parts of the island, but for by much the longest period m Hastings, where he first became known over a quarter of a century back. Of uniform and unfailing courtesy to all classes, of the highest integrity, and of a genial and hospitable nature, Mr Tomlinson won the esteem and regard of all those with whom he came in intimate contact, and there were few more popular men connected with the trade. He had made a personal hobby of gathering Maori and Polynesian curios, leaving behind him a very valuable collection. The deceased gentleman had never married, but there survive to mourn hia loss bis mother and a sister, to whom will be extended heartfelt sympathy from many quarters. His death came after some months of illness, on which complications supervened that ended in his death despite all that medical skill could do. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr Leslie Wall, 500W Avenue road, Hastings, for the Hustings cemetery to-morrow (Tuesday) at 11 30 a.m. MRS CAROLINE MATILDA ANDREW. The death occurred this morning at Waipukurau of Mrs Caroline Matilda Afidrew, She was the widow of Mr James Smith Andrew, late of O»mondville, who predeceased her ny many years. She was 68 years of age. and lived for some years in Hasting*, where she was well-known and esteemed. The funeral will leava the residence of her daughter, MW Malcolm (Ruataniwha), Waip«wa for (he Orfnondville cemetery to-morrow (Tuesday), at 1.15 p m.
