FIRE

HASTINGS BAKERY BURNED A fire which broke out at 2.45 this afternoon in the Star Bakery at the corner of Gray’s road and Heretaunga street engaged the attention of the Hastings Fire Brigade. The building is owned by Mr. J. E. McGuire, of Gray’s road and leased by Mr. A. E. Corson. The origin of the fire i» not known but it commenced apparently in aa oven of tho bakehouse and was localised by the efforts of the brigade to this portion. The shop attached to the bakery, escaped damage, the firo being chiefly confined to the scantling and rafters of the bakehouse. Tho total damages were not extensive. The insurances on the building were not available up to the time of going to press. (Per Preu Association., Creymouth, Sept. 27. An outbreak of fire in the “Argus” newspaper building, Greymouth, this morning damaged paper rolls, the poof and a partitioning wall. The damage is estimated at about £5OO.
