FATAL STORM
NEWFOUNDLAND VISITATION BOMBARDMENT OF HAILSTONES. FISHERMEN BEATEN TO DEATH [United Press Association—By Cable— Copyright.) (Rec.vwd 28, 1.5 p.m.) St. John's (Newfoundland), June 27. The toll of the terrific thunderstorm which visited eastern Newfoundland on Thursday has now reached 11. Lightning killed five at St. Johns. At Lumsden, a fishing village, hailstones weighing as much as ten pounds bombarded the community, sinking 30 boats anchored in the harbour and smashing practically every roof and window in the village. Three fishermen clung to the bottoms of their boats 'until beaten to death by falling ice. An overnight cable stated: —Three lives were lost, thirty boats sunk and heavy property damage done in a thunder, lightning and hail storm in the Lpmsden district. Some of the hailstones weighed ten pounds.
