OBITUARY
" MABION JANE ORB. The ranks of Hawse’s Bay’s rapidly dwindling band of pioneers suffered a further loss yesterday, w,hen Mrs. Marion Jane Orr, relict of the late John Orr, passed away at her residence, Avondale road, Taradale. Mrs. Orr was born in Wellington in 1844, her parents having arrived there from Edinburgh two years previous. Although in her great age she lived apart from the world, her fine service given in the pioneering days Will long be remembered. She was a keen horticulturist, having always a beautiful garden. She leaves a family of three sons and five daughters (two sons having predeceased her), 25 grandchildren, and 8 greatgrandchildren. WILLIAM TTACEY. One of the Otane district’s oldest pioneers passed away at the Waipukurau Hospital on Thursday night in the person of Mr. W. Stacey. lie was born in 1859, on Mr. Cooper’s property, and has resided in the district ever since. As a boy of nine years of age he drove his first bullock team to Napier, in conjunction with his halfbrother, the lato Mr. P. 11. Hickey. He had vivid recollections of the big earthquake of about 64 years ago, which lasted on and off for five weeks, and could remember shooting pigeons in the bush where part of Otane now stands. All his life he carried on bush work, and at one time owned a sawmill at Wairoa, and later one at Tikokino. He was engaged in laborous team wor up to within a few works of his death. The funeral will take place at the Hadley Cemetery, Waipawa, on Sunday afternoon, from the Boman Catholic Church.
