THE CHANGE-OVER. In the second half, Day placed the home team on the line with * great kick, but the British forwards dribbled out of danger. Another free kick to Britain gave much needed relief. Whiting then broke through and placed th* Combined again on the attack. Hollow secured and kicked ufor the corner, but the ball went into touch in goal. For ten minutes Britain had been defending, when Jones-Davies returned to hall-way. The visitors’ backs strove hard to penetrate and from a scrum near the line the visitor* were penalised for handling in th* scrum, South Canterbury were penned on the line till Whiting found the 25 flag in the face of a strong rush. Calhiuan forced and the home team rushed downfield, where Sumpter was nearly too quick for Bassett. Offside play in the 25 gave Black another chance, but ho failed, Britain scored a minute later, No vis cross-kicking at half-way to Jennings, who raced under the posts to touch down.
