UNEMPLOYED ARAPUNI MEN

ARRANGEMENTS FOR WORK MADE. Wellington, June 26. Arrangements are being made by the Minister of Public Works for tho prompt absorption of the bulk of the 170 men who have been thrown out of employment as a result of tho closing down of Arapuni. At a meeting this morning, a deputation consisting of Mr C. H. Clinkard M.P., for Rotorua, and representatives of the New Zealand Workers’ Union met tho Hon. W. B. Taverner who agreed to have immediate steps taken for tho employment of 50 of the married men upon the RotoruaTaupo road construction, and intimated that a further 50 would, bo required for the observation and exploration of the tunnel drives jit Arapuni. This left approximately 70 men, tor whom no work is at present available and he promised to make inquires, and see what work could be provided for these men as handy as possible to Arapuni.
