The engagement is announced of Henrietta Dorothy, only daughter of H. D. Tyacke, late assistant in-spector-general, R.1.C.. Ballyglassfi, Mullingan. Ireland, and Dr. William Gordon Rich, of Christchurch.
It is customary for Prime Ministers to undertake short pre-ssional tours annually, but this year it is unlikely that the Hon. G. W. Forbes will be able to leave Wellington before the opening of the approaching session of Parliament.
Remissions totalling £11.287 were made by the Commission which recently investigated cases of hardship arising from the imposition of the super land tax legislation last session. According to a summary of the Commission’s report, released >’or publication yesterday by the Prime Minister (Hon. G. W. Forbes), there were 688 objections, and cancellation of the tax was recommended in 399 cases, and a reduction in 109 cases.
