PLUNKET SHIELD WELLINCTON NOW THE HOLDERS. LOWRY’S FINE FIGHTINGINNINGS. Wellington, March 11. By defying the Auckland bowling for close upon eight hours, Wellington won the Plunket Shield to-day, and at the drawing of stumps had lost eight wickets for 380 runs. The day was saved for the home team by a wonderful fighting innings for 122 by the captain, T. C. Lowry, who remained at the wickets for 268 minutes. With McLeod he put oil 112 for the fifth wicket, and with McGirr he added 132 for the sixth wicket. • The Aucklanders strove har 1 all day for victory and might have retained the shield had their work in the air been better. Lowry was dropped behind the wickets when 31, and McGirr was dropped iu the twenties. By preventing Auckland getting an outright win Wellington took the • shield by 18 points to Auckland's 16. The fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Hawke s Bay Cricket Association was held last night. Present: Messrs R. M. Chadwick (chairman), C. Louisson, R. Spriggs, C. Elmes, C. Canning, 11. V. Phillips, J. Hawke and H. Stephenson. The Napier Boys’ High School applied for a ruling in regard to their third-grade A team’s first round fixture against H. 5.0.8., which was played the day following the school break-up. They stated that a&- the school had broken up its proper eleven was not fielded.—As the fixture was one arranged by the fixtures committee it was decided to replystating that the result must stand.

The Poverty Bay Association advised that every effort would be made to send senior and junior representative teams to Napier at Easter.

The Central Hawke’s Bay Association asked that their match against Hawke’s Bay be played at Napier on April 12 instead of at Waipukurau as suggested.—Agreed to. The committee decided to close the Napier section of the second-grade competition. Technical Old Boys A being declared the winners. They will meet the winners of the Eskdalc.or the Hastings sections and then the final of the competition would be played. The fixtures committee is to arrange matches for the other secondgrade teams. It- was also decided to close the third-grade competitions on Saturday, the arranging of further games being left to the fixtures committee.

The Napier Boys’ High School was granted permission for their first eleven to travel to Gisborne and play its annual match with the Gisborne High School on Friday and Saturday, March 21 and 22, INTER-HOUSE MATCH. H G. Apsey and Co. proved too strong for Garton and Co. in their annual cricket match, winning by the big margin of an innings and 16 runs. Those to reach double figures for the former were Jack Henry (15), G. Stedman (16), C. Lloyd (20), S. Geake (22) and E. Apsey (20), while Stephens (.33) was the only doublefigure scorer for Garton and Co. Garton and Co.’s scores were 39 and 58 and Apsey and Co.’s reached 113. On Saturday next Garton and Co. try conclusions with C. H. Slater, Ltd. on Cornwall Park. H.B.
