In connection with the Plunket and Rest Rooms Gymkhana to be heid on Wednesday the following are the general officials:—Chairman of committees, C- Pattison; handicappers, running, Gavin Black, cycling, W. Cameron, horse events, S. Wright; timekeepers, W. King, R. B. Parker, G. Smales; referees, athletic and cycling events, A. C. Rowe, horse events, C. Pattison; announcer and marshall, B. J. Atkins ; starter, T. Nutt; assistant starter. H. L. Abbott; judges, running and cycling, A. D. Gibson, P. R. Smyrk, B. L. Wallis; horse events, J. D. Ormond, A S. Wilder.

In his monthly report to the Wai pawn Hospital Board the acting medical superintendent (Dr. W. B Fisher) states: “During the month G 3 patients were admitted to hospital •>! which 39 were males and 24 females. There were discharged 65, of which 44 were males and 21 females. Two males died during the month; there were remaining in hospital on February 28th 41 patients, of whom 19 were males and 22 females. The dailv average of occupied beds through the month was 47.82. There are nine patients who have heen inmates for three months or over. Of surgical operations performed under general anaesthesia 5 were major and 24 minor. The Waipawa Hospital Board’s District Nurse (Porangahau) reporting on the past month’s activities states that she attended 21 patients making four visits to patients’ homes and attending 29 patients at the cottage, a total of 33 visits for the month. Fees collected for the month amount to £2 4/6.

Logan, and R. Glentworth. Reporting to the Waipawa Hospital Board on the finances of that body the secretary (Mr, P. R. Smyrk) states in the course of his monthly survey that the balance statement shows a credit of £l4lO 1/11 at the close of the period. The sum of £llOO had been transferred to the building loan account, which now stands nt £3900. Patients’ fees under all headings for the month amounted to £llB 2/9. Robertshaw, returned home during the week-end, has been warmly congratulated on his successes at the National Rifle Meeting. A live-shell practice is being held by the sth Battery, N.Z. Artillery, to-day on tho propertv of Messrs. E. A. J. Elliott and H. R. Peacock. Mangntaratn. A similar shoot will be held to-morrow. CRICKET. On Saturday, at Wanstead, the Central H.iwke's Bay eleven (holders) will play the East Coast team (challengers) tor the Packard Sheild. The match is to commence at 10.30 o’clock. Representing the former will be:— R. P. Wilder; captain. Eparaima), T. Southall, W. Metcalf, G- Kuru (Waipukurau), I{. Guy, T. Spencer (Old Boys), D. Canning, A. S. Wilder, C. F. Hartland (Eparaima), A. Page, and P. Oram (Otane); twelfth man, J. Elliott (Old Boys). In a cricket match played between a Waipukurau eleven and a team representing the Sth Battery (Wellington) ol the N.Z. Artillery, the former proved victorious by six runs. Of the Waipukurau total, 95 runs, Stewart was responsible for 19 (not out). Guy 19 and Elliott 15,, and O’Dowd 11. Paetz (Battery), five wickets for 18 tuns, was the most successful trundle:- of the day, while Spencer, four for 16, and Guy, four for 21, headed the local bowlers.

Miss A Miller has had to enter the Waipawa Distuct Hospital to undergo an operation. In the absence ol the Rev. F. W. Robertson, who is in Dunedin attending the annual General Assembly ol the Presbyterian Church. Mr 1. M. Crawford tilled the pulpit and conducted the morning service yesterday.

A painful sensation was created in Waipawa tins morning when at about 7 o’clock the body ot Ernest Phillips, motor carrier, aged about 45, was found hanging from a rope u? his garage in Kenilworth street, the case being apparently one of suicide. The deceased, who had been seen around earlier in the morning, was a well known resident and leaves a wife and three children of his former marring? Ho was at one time a resident of Ota ne. .
