MOTHERS’ CHAIR APPEAL FUND

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the above club was held on Tuesday last in the Women’s Community Club rooms. Present: Mrs. E. C. Clarkson (chair). Mesdames Herrick, Whyte, Tonkin, Joll, Brathwayt, Rochfort, Paynter, Roach, Whitlock, Nairn, G. McLeod, Comrie, Miss Ford and the lion, secretary (Mrs. T. H. Gill). Mrs. T. H. Lowry (district president) was also present. Apologies were received from Lady Russell, Mesdames Gilbertson and Hopkins, and Misses Williams and Hunter.

The reports of the public meeting and of the subsequent committee meeting held on February 4th in the Assembly Hall were read and adopted.

A discussion on the best means of reaching the whole of the community with regard to this appeal ensued, and it was finally decided to hold a house to house canvas of the districts which have not been already touched. An offer was received from the “Blue Birds Entertainers,” in Napier, to put on a concert in support of the Mothers’ Chair appeal. It was decided to thank them for their suggestion and to leave the committee’s decision until a later date.

Reports on progress to date were made by the various collectors, and already a sum of £3OO has been collected. The committee hopes to be able to close the fund at the end of March if the' desired amount of money from the Hastings district has been reached.

Mrs. Lowry then read reports of enthusiastic meetings held at Wairoa, and Otaki. and also at Christchurch At the latter place some 350 women were present at their last meeting Excellent progress is reported and the enthusiasm displayed everywhere promises that tin's women's effort for women shall be a pronounced success. The next committee meeting will be held on Friday, March 21st, at 11 a.m.
