A BOXING QUERY
CAN HAY BEAT BROADFOOT? ANSWER KNOWN NEXT THURSDAY. Can Artic Hay, welter and middleweight boxing champion of New Zealand, add the third title of lightheavy champion to his belt? This is the problem which boxing fans will be set to answer in the Hastings Municipal Theatre on Thursday next. In finding the answer there should be plenty of thrills and excitement, for whilst Hay is confident that he can become a triple champion, Jim Broadfoot reckons that he has a pretty safe hold on the title which Hay is seeking. At any rate, he is not likely to give it up without a big struggle, and it is this straggle which should keep fans on the edge of excitement throughout. Apart from the big professional contest there are three fine amateur bouts, in which two competitors will be from Wellington. These are Strickland and Sarachi, who are to meet Thompson and Ferguson, of Hastings. The third bout will be betwen Little, of Waipukurau, and Andrews, of Napier, and as the former was one of the most promising contestants at the recent military championships, Andrews will have to step a lively tune. Reduced admission charges are offered, and wise patrons will reserve their seats at Donovan’s.
For the benefit of Napier patrons, ’buses will run from Napier, returning after the contest.
