SWIMMING

OPEN INTER-CLUB CARNIVAL. HAVELOCK NORTH HOLD FIRST OF SERIES. This, evening the elete of swimming in Hastings will gather at the Havelock North baths where the lillage club will hold an open interclub carnival. This is to be the first of three big carnivals to be staged by the joint committee of the Havelock North, Heretaunga and Mahora clubs. Special interest centres round the competition for a shield presented by Mr. A. 1. Rainbow. This trophy is to be competed for by teams representing the three clubs whe must enter competitors in all events. Points will be awarded on the placings in every event in the three carnivals ana the club with the highest aggregate of points annexes the shield. Heretaunga and .Mahora have selected very strong teams and the indications are that competition for the honours will be exceptionally keen.

The support of the public is solicited in view of the fact that indirectly the funds derived from the three carnivals is to bo donated to the Centre for the purpose of sending a Hawke's Bay team to the New Zealand championships. The chibs have committed themselves to make substantial grants to the Centre and the holding of the carnivals is to be the medium through which they propose to meet their obligations.
