fortnichtly council MEETING. GENERAL MATTERS DEALT WITH. The fortnightly meeting of the Napier Borough Council was held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Vigor Brown), and Councillors J. C. Bryant, R. W. Goodger, F. Rice, C. 1). Cox. P. Higgins, A. E. Bedford, S. G. Ellison, A. H. D. Mayne and R. Dockery. The council decided to agree to the request of the Minister of Lands that the sale of the area qf Crown land at Awatoto adjoining the Municipal abattor bo completed. The council referred a request from a number of occupiers of the Criterion Hotel block to a special committee dealing with Market reserve

The question of slabbing both sides of Tennyson street from Hastings to Herschell streets at an estimated cost of £BO was deferred for consideration when the estimates for the next financial years are being considered. The borough engineer was authorised to confer with the engineer of the Hawke’s Bay County Council regarding clearing the drain on the Meeanee-Awatoto road and cutting down tho silver poplars growing on that road. The electricity committee stated that the report on community liglitir - ent to Napier Retailers’ Associ ...n was being discussed by its representatives and the Town Clerk. On the recommendation of the electricity committee it was decided to inform the Ministers’ Association that the council could not see its way to make the concession asked for. It was decided that no action he taken in .regard to tar sealing the flanks of Kennedy road. It was decided to agree to the suggestion by the Hawke’s Bay Central Committee of Boy Scouts that the rent of the Municipal Theatre in connection with the welcome to the Jamboree Scouts bo remitted.

Penn>ssion was granted to motor cyclists competing at the Napiei Motor Racing Club’s sports on January 1 and 2 to ride machines without silencers provided that they travel by the nearest route to the course at a speed not exceeding 25 miles an hour.
