HASTINGS MUNICIPAL THEATRE.
(To the Editor). Sir, —The letter in your yesterday’s issue re the theatre brings up a matter of great importance and although all of us who know the Mayor and Councillors will realise that they are actuated by the best of motives, those of us who are interested in the stage will deplore their action ; f it is going to restrict the visits of the best, artists to the town. It is open to legal opinion as to whether they have the power ns trustees to sign such an agreement. If this Dominion is to progress on right lines there must be a reaction before long in favour of the personal element in all branches of art, and I trust that the thinking people of Hastings will take this matter up with the Mayor, who, 1 feel sure, will be sympathetic. Yours faithfully, PIT. Hastings, 4/12/29.
