OUR SPORTS DAY
Dear Chief Kiwi, —Before I commence my essay 1 must thank you foi the certificate you awarded me last. My essay this w’eek is on the above subject. On Wednesday, Oth October, the schools of Hastings and Havelock held a combined sports meeting. Every child was looking forward to this special day. Wednesday eventually came with great disappointment, for when I woke up in the early morning it looked very dull, and I thought it was going to rain. Fortunately it cleared up, until quarter to ten, and then it started to rain. I thought our sports were finished for the day, but it cleared up, and the sun shone brightly for a while. The sports started at ten o’clock wit- a game of basketball, which was quite interesting. Many other sports were played, races run, jumping, etc. Shortly after it started to rain again everyone rushed foi the grandstand, which was threepence extra, but I do not think anyone paid. The day was not very pleasant, as it rained on and off all the time. I arrived home about five, feeling very tired. I must close now, as it is getting late. With love to you and the Kiwi Band.
