Mr Geoffery Heenan, of Haveloek North, left Hastings by the mail train to-day on route for an extended tour of South Africa.

His Majesty the King attended his third play during the week, occupying Their Majesties’ box at the “Middle Watch’’ at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

Mr. J. P. Webster, of the rtaff of the Palmerston North branch of the Union Bank of Australia Ltd., has received notice of his transfer to the Napier branch and will leave Palmerston North to-morrow.

Sir Ronald Lindsay has been appointed Ambassador at Washington and Sir Esmond Ovey Ambassador at Moscow. Sir Robert Vansittart succeeds Sir Ronald Lindsay at the Foreign Office.

Mr E. A. Earp, senior Apiary Instructor for the Department of Agriculture, is at present in Hastings with Mr L. Roisterer, who has taken over the duties of Mr E. H. Barry, retired, apiary instructor for Hawke’s Bay.

The death occurred at Dunedin today of Mr A. H. Tomkinson, solicitor, of the firm of Tomkinson and Wood, at the age of 61 years. He was a well-known yachtsman—Press Association.

The death has occurred of SergtMajor J. C. Raynes, V.C.. who has been bedridden for three years with paralysis, and was unable to attend the Prince’s dinner. He did not recover from wounds and gassing at Ixios, when rescuing wounded, to one of whom he gave his own gas mask London cable.

The infant son of an Aaitralian member of Parliament, Mr Bc~ee, was christened in the crypt chapel of the House of Commons by the Bishop of Gloucester in the presence of 400 guests. It was the first time in history that a child of Australian parents has been chistened at the Poyal Palace.

The untimely death of Mrs. Edith Margaret Sharp, which occurred last Tuesday, was learnt with sincere sorrow by a large circle of friends and acquaintances, as w’ell as by all who had come into contact with her in the district. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brian, highly respected residents of Hastings and she was born and educated in Havelock North. She was widely known and held in much esteem through this district, where she spent her whole life. She had been ill for some time hnt, on the morning of hei death, she appealed to be in the best of health She leaves a husband and two sons, aged 10 and 16 respectively -oil as two brothers and two -■str-- whom general sympathy is extended The funeral will leav* the residence, Avenue road W., for the Havelock N. Cemetery to-morrow (Friday), at 10 a.m.
