STARTLING DISCOVERY
WOMAN FOUND DEAD. A HASTINGS RESIDENT. Mrs Edith Sharp, wife of Mr. James Sharp, who was absent in Wellington, and who recently conducted the business of an auctioneer in Russell street, Hastings, was found dead in bed at 9 o'clock last night, at her residence, 604 Avenue road W. Mrs Sharp was last seen alive by her elder son, aged 16, at 1 o’clock yesterday afternoon, and she then appeared to be quite well. On returning from school with his brother, aged 10, at 3.30, they found the door locked and, getting in through the window, found no one at home. Later, as their mother had not yet made her appearance, they got their own tea and went to bed. At nine o’clock. Mrs Satterthwaite, who was on a visit to Mrs Sharp, came in, and, wishing to speak with the deceased, went to her bedroom, where she found her dead. The deceased had been suffering from a painful illness for some considerable time. An inquest will be held in Hastings to-morrow morning, before Mr. A. A. George, J.P.. and a jury.
