Mr D. Hope Johnson. r f Sydney, has presented the New Zealand Government with a set of six nictures depicting the founding of each Australian State, painted by John Alleott. The historical data was collected by Mr Johnson. When the New Zealand cruisers were in Sydney Mr Johnson gave Commodore Swabey nictures of the historical Australian ships for the New Zealand navy and sent over by him the collection now mentioned. They will be placed in the National Gallcrv nt Wellington when it is built, and meanwhile are on view on the Turnbull Library. Sir Joseph Ward, in thankintr Mr Hope Johnson, expressed a desire to arrange with him for a similar series on New Zealand subjects.
