H.B. HOSPITAL BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING HELD. MINOR MATTERS DEALT WITH. The monthly meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Hospital Board was held at the Napier Hospital yesterday. Present: Messrs C. O. Morse (chairman), A. E. Bedford, G. Priest, C. H. Williams, S. J. McKee, C. Duff, and Dr. H. M. Wilson. Leave of absence was granted Messrs F. B. Logan, H. Hill and H. V. Hoadley. The question of the appointment of a dietetist at the Napier Hospital was referred to the medical subcommittee to consider. The question of consideration of offers made for housing the district nurse at Hastings were deferred until the next meeting. During October a total of 160 males and 134 females were admitted to the Napier Hospital. A total of 132 males and 117 females were discharged; 13 males and five females died, leaving in the institution on October 31 110 males and 105 females. Infectious disease cases were admitted as follows:—Phthisis 5, scarlet fever 3, diphtheria 1, and typhoid 11. A total of 36 patients were in the isolation wards being an increase of four during the month. A total of 57 major and 93 minor operations were performed during the month. In the outpatients’ department 285 were treated, of which 185 were new applications. In the dental department 155 visits were made. FINANCE. Monthly vouchers totalling £2,188 9/9 were passed for payment, while intermediate payments amounting to £2.828 3/11 were confirmed. The monthly balance statement showing a credit balance of £3,109 8/1 was approved. Fees totalling £2,864 18/5 were written oft.
