Hayden, of Pulcetapu, Hawke’s Bay, at a very high figure, and is tor shipment to Buenos Ayres. AUSTRALIAN TREASURY BILLS (Australian and N.Z. Press Association.) London, August 31. Australia is not alone in having to pay a high price for Treasury bills, for yesterday’s issue of British three months Treasury bills was placed at a shade under sJper cent, which is the highest rate paid for British Treasury bonds for a long time. The result of the tenders for five million Commonwealth twelve month bills certainly has not improved Australia’s financial standing in London. Although the high discount rate closely accorded to market anticipations, the position apparently shows less confidence in Commonwealth finances than is really indicated on closer study, since the combination of many circumstances, largely technical in nature, makes the present moment especially inopportune for (.any considerable borrowing, irrespective of the borrower’s identity.
