NEW BREED OF SHEEP
DUAL PURPOSE CHARACTERISTICS. A new breed of sheep known as tho Reform has been evolved by Mr It. E. Beattie, of Woodville. The Reform sheep was originally bred from roistered Lincoln ewes and Ryeland rams, and then bred up on somewhat similar lines to that by which the now wellknown Corriedalo sheep became established. After several years of careful selection ahd breeding the He form sheep, according to Mr Beattie, have now become established into a compact sheep well covered with dense, fine wool of uniform character They are a sheep of dual purpose characteristics, and aro early maturing. Their wool at the sales last year realised 22Jd; the ewe hoggets averaged 12<Jd lb. It is claimed that their lambs will outweigh the lambs of many other breeds of sheep, age for ago. It has been found, says Mr Beattie, that lambs by them from ordinary flock ewes, and not sold as fats, become profitable sheep to hold.
