NEWS AND NOTES.
The Havelock North Fire Brigade received another call to a grass fire about 3.40 p.m. yesterday. The scene of the outbreak was on the right-hand side of Templeton road, near the properties of Messrs McLennan and T. Crook. On the arrival of the brigade the flames were soon extinguished, before any damage was done. The cause of the fire is unknown, but it thought that cigarettes from passing motorists may have been the cause. The Havelock North Fire Brigade acknowledges the receiput of £1 10s from Messrs Estaugh and Treneman. A dance will be held to-night in the Foresters’ Hall by the Havelock North Croquet Club. If this dance comes up to the standard of previous similar functions, a most enjoyable time is assured. A grand garden fete will be held to-morrow for St. Luke’s Church school fund at “Crosby.” Mrs Sanders’ residence, Lucknow road, Havelock North. There will be various stalls of meat, produce, jumble, cake, sweets, books, and ice creams and afternoon tea will be available. There will also be various entertainments and competitions, such ns cocoanut shies, fortune telling, bran tub, etc. Gifts of any description may be left nt the “Tribune’’ agency. Havelock North. The fun starts at 2 p.m. to-morrow.
