MINISTER TO INSPECT RIVAL ROUTES. Gisborne, Feb. 28. The Hon. W. B. Taverner (Minister of Railways) arrived in Gisborno to-night from Opotiki and was accorded a civic reception at a very largelyattended and representative meeting. Later, two deputations waited on th.i Minister, urging the immediate continuation of the East Coast railway from Wairoa to Gisborne. The Minister, in reply, said he intended to examine the two rival routes and the Government’s decision would bo announced in due course. The Minister leaves to-morrow-morning to make a personal inspection of the inland route and will examine the coastal route on Saturday, proceeding that evening to Napier.
