SERIOUS MOTOR SMASH AT WAIPAWA. FIVE PEOPLE INJURED. [Per Press Association.! Waipawa, Feb 28. A serious motor accident occurred in the early hours this morning ?n the Main Street. When passing the memorial clock a car owned by Carnaby, of Dannevirke, swerved into tho channelling, came into violent collision with a telephone post, and was badly wrecked. The fi-c occupants were all more or less seriously injured, two being removed to the Waipukurau Hospital. James White, single, aged 65, of Westport, was killed at 10.30 o’clock this morning by a fall of coal in tho Westport main mine at Granity. A fatal accident occurred on the Wairoa-Waikokopu railway late yesterday afternoon. Tho son of Mr. R. Munroe, a Public Works Employee, ran on to the lino as trucks were being shunted near tho WairoaFrasertown road. Mrs. Munroe ran to catch him, but was run over and in pared so seriously that she died on arrival at the hospital. The little boy was also struck, and one arm wa° severed. He is suffering from shock, but is expected to recover. Mr. Harry Francis Becky. farmer, of Ongatete, had been through with his son to the Opotiki show. On the way home he spent Saturday night at Mr. Allan Barr’s farm at Awakeri. His son went into the bedroom on Sunday inorninp- and found his father dead. A verdict of death from natural causes was returned.
